Retro Handheld Cloud Save Sync & Memory Card Guide
Play your RPG campaign on the train with your Retroid Pocket 5 or Miyoo Mini Plus, walk into your living room, and pick up right where you left off on your PC or Steam Deck. Here is the verified blueprint for automated, non-destructive save synchronization.
Golden Rule: Sync Battery Saves Only, NEVER Save States
Save states (.state, .state.auto) write raw RAM memory chunks to disk. If the emulator core version on your Android device (e.g., RetroArch mGBA 0.10.2) differs from your PC or Steam Deck (mGBA 0.10.3), loading a synced save state will corrupt your entire game!
Always Ignore (.stignore): *.state*, *.auto*, *.png, *.bak
Save File & Memory Card Path Directory
Select your target emulator and operating system to look up the exact folder path, file extension, and cross-platform compatibility notes.
RetroArch Cores on Android
/storage/emulated/0/RetroArch/saves/RetroArch on Android stores all in-game battery saves in the primary RetroArch directory. This folder can be directly synchronized with PC RetroArch with zero conversion needed.
Step-by-Step Syncthing Automation Playbook
Install Syncthing on Handheld & Host PC
Install Syncthing-Fork (available via F-Droid or Google Play) on your Android handheld. On your PC, download the official Syncthing Windows installer or install Syncthing via Discover store on Steam Deck.
Pair Devices via Local Network QR Code
Open Syncthing on PC and click Add Remote Device. Scan the QR code displayed in the Android app. Syncthing establishes an encrypted peer-to-peer TLS tunnel across your local Wi-Fi without uploading saves to any third-party cloud servers.
Configure .stignore to Block Corrupting Save States
In your shared folder settings within Syncthing, open the Ignore Patterns tab and paste the following rules:
(?d)*.state*
(?d)*.auto*
(?d)*.bak
(?d)*.tmp
(?d).DS_Store
(?d)thumbs.dbEnable File Versioning (Accidental Overwrite Protection)
Under the folder settings, select File Versioning and choose Trash Can File Versioning (keep deleted files for 30 days). If you accidentally save over an existing game, Syncthing keeps timestamped previous versions in the hidden .stversions folder!
