Why 8x Fast-Forward Chokes Budget Chips
At normal 1x speed (60 FPS), the handheld CPU has 16.6 milliseconds to execute instruction cycles for each frame.
When you toggle 8x Fast-Forward, the emulator uncaps the frame limiter, demanding the processor compute 480 frames per second (2.08ms per frame)!
Cortex-A53 / A35 Limitation:Low IPC in Allwinner H700 and RK3326 cannot process instruction pipelines faster than ~240 FPS. That is why Pokemon Emerald tops out at ~4x speed on budget consoles.
The Hidden Cost of Rewind Buffers
RetroArch's Rewind feature captures delta memory snapshots every few frames into a rolling RAM ring-buffer so you can reverse mistakes in real time.
- ⚠️RAM Consumption: A 60-second rewind buffer on GBA or SNES consumes 120MB to 250MB of RAM.
- ❌Crash Risk on 1GB Handhelds: On consoles with 1GB RAM (RG35XX SP, TrimUI Smart Pro), enabling Rewind while PortMaster or PS1 is running can trigger Linux Out-Of-Memory (OOM) kernel kills.
- ✓Pro-Tip: Disable Rewind on 1GB devices; keep enabled on 4GB-12GB Android handhelds (RP5, Odin 2).
